LIVING WITH CHRONIC PAIN – A FIRST PERSON STORY

There are many types of chronic pain. They all have several things in common:

  • they all follow from physical injury or illness
  • they all involve long-term relentless pain
  • they all cause widespread losses and disruption to a person’s life.

Below is a short story of one person’s experience with arthritis, a common cause of chronic or long-term pain.  In this story from The Globe and Mail, Wendy Walters gives us a clear account of all of these three main ingredients.

Listening, reading and learning (especially from people in the know) is how we can come to appreciate the fight, the struggle and the day-to-day reality of life with long-term pain.
